Frequently Asked Questions

Is LeagueFinder free to use?

Yes, entirely free — no fees for players applying to leagues or commissioners posting openings. Fantasy hockey has a smaller but more dedicated community than other sports, and LeagueFinder is built to serve that — no monetization gatekeeping the process. Sign up and start browsing in under a minute.

What is an orphan team?

An orphan team is a team in an existing fantasy hockey league that lost its manager and needs someone to take over. Dynasty hockey orphans are particularly common — long-term leagues occasionally lose owners mid-rebuild, and taking over one of those teams means inheriting a full roster and cap situation. Commissioners list orphan teams here so dedicated managers can step in and continue the league without interruption.

How do I list myself as a free agent?

Sign up, open My Profile, and enable Free Agent Status. Set your platform preference (Fantrax, ESPN, Yahoo), preferred formats, scoring style, and buy-in range — commissioners actively recruit from this list when they have openings. Fantrax dynasty and keeper leagues in particular tend to fill faster through free agent recruiting than through open listings, since commissioners in those formats want experienced, committed managers.

What platforms does LeagueFinder support?

Listings cover Fantrax, ESPN, Yahoo, and other platforms. Commissioners specify their platform when posting, and you can filter by platform in the sidebar. There's no platform restriction; if your league runs on it, you can list it here.

What fantasy hockey formats are listed?

You'll find redraft, keeper, and dynasty leagues across rotisserie, H2H points, and daily formats. Both full-season and in-season orphan team listings are active throughout the NHL season. Each listing shows platform, scoring format, and buy-in so you can find the right fit quickly.

Can I find a hockey league that uses Fantrax or ESPN?

Yes — use the platform filter in the sidebar to show only listings from a specific platform. Fantrax is the most common platform for serious and dynasty hockey leagues on LeagueFinder; ESPN and Yahoo listings are also active. If you can't find an exact match, list yourself as a free agent with your platform preference and commissioners will reach out.
